There is nothing to complain about. This product is great. Shipped fast, and is exactly what I wanted.
The unit has a display option that allows you to show album art which I think is cool. I like the fact that those buttons only light up when you're about to use them so no night time glare. In my vehicle the unit is a little deeper than the 800 so it protrudes out a little further than I'd like. Now that I think about it almost all of the buttons on the face of the unit are available on the touch screen now which makes me wonder why the redundancy. If it performed as well as the older model I'd be really happy. When you go into the list view you have to wait, once you start scrolling you have to wait all you do on this unit is wait. The menus are very similar to the older model which I liked. Video: The picture is on par with most units of this type.
Not impressive but not terrible. This unit takes it to a level that is almost intolerable. There isn't any firmware support from JVC so I doubt anything will be done about the performance issues. Attaching and detaching the face takes a little getting used to but once you figure it out you'll be good to go.
You also have the ability to control the unit's volume with the touch screen volume knob though it takes a little getting used to. GUI: The 810's GUI is decent. The unit is gorgeous and very sleek with only a few slim buttons on the face. Most units that read MP3 disks have a slight delay compared to audio CD's so this was expected. This unit is feature rich and I had high hopes based on my experience with the AVX800. Performance: For some reason this unit is really slow. There have been some changes mostly for the better like the ability to scroll through files using a scroll bar like on your computer.
There is a good EQ built in along with a crossover. What's even worse is the performance from a USB source. I will start by saying that I owned this unit's predecessor (AVX800) so I had something to compare this unit against. On the 800 I would wait less than 10 seconds for a DVD filled with MP3's to start playing and that's all the waiting you'd ever do once it was loaded. On the 810 it's almost twice as long if not longer. I have an external HDD that I wanted to use with this unit.
All the features you need to tune your stereo to your liking are available. Overall: I think the unit is loaded with features that you'll enjoy if you don't mind waiting for them. The remote is simple but doesn't provide much access to the unit's menus. Now I'm having a problem getting the unit to read new files that I've add to my HDD. Sound: This unit sounds great. All of these controls are the same from the older model.
Upon connection of the HDD be prepared to wait for almost a minute or more before anything starts playing. I thought I'd be able to tolerate the slow loading times but it's starting to get old and I'm considering going with something else.
I've made some great purchases on the strength of Amazon customer reviews, but this certainly wasn't one of them. The sound cuts out randomly at high volumes; a problem I haven't been able to track down. I don't know whether the screen or the camera is to blame, but the picture quality of the rear view image is quite poor. The AVX810 is offered here at what seems to be a bargain price, and it appeared to offer every feature I wanted. One line of text at a time is displayed, including one song or menu item. Unfortunately the unit performs none of its functions especially well, and some of them quite badly. As a result you will poke blindly at the pixelated touch controls for hours searching for individual songs or playlists. I'm particularly surprised at those complimentary of the image quality of the screen - the interface looks pixelated and overall image quality is mediocre at best.Ipod control through the interface adapter is dreadful. I had the recommended JVC Bluetooth, backup camera and steering wheel control adapter installed along with the avx810.
To say you can control an iPod through this head unit is like saying you can fly by dressing up as a bird and jumping off a bridge; yes, for a moment you are technically flying, but the experience really, really bites. Sound quality is adequate, but not noticeably superior to the factory audio in my FJ Cruiser that it replaced. albeit after the addition of several expensive add-on modules. For me it has been a lesson in questioning the deal that seems too good to be true.
iPhone does not work with the USB. This unit has been great. I have not tried the iPod device add-on as I use the aux in and renamed it iPhone. Connects to my 80 gig external and plays DIVX movies with no problems. Load times for the CD, DVD, USB, iPod can be a bit long, but not aggravating. The USB does charge the iPhone. Detachable screen works well and after 10-15 times you get the movement down to attach and remove it really easily and smoothly.
Wonderful. I had to order additional parts so when ordering make sure you have all the parts you need to install right away.
